Commercial Analyst


The Commercial Analyst has two clear functions – pricing analysis and margin improvement across all customers and suppliers and the provision of actionable analysis of customer performance data. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, the role sits at the heart of the Commercial department working across all functions including sales and marketing, bid management, sales support and supplier relations while also having strong links to the finance, operations and performance departments.

An exciting new role in a forward thinking commercial department with close working links with finance, the Commercial Analyst will work within the Commercial Department to redefine the pricing policy for both new and existing business. A tenacious individual, the successful candidate will hunt out value and increased margins across all customer accounts through analysing supplier allocation, route price optimisation and customer usage data.

The second part of the role is to define and implement the company’s strategy for the analysis of performance data and the actions to be taken to improve the service delivered to our customers. Working with the sales and account management team the successful candidate will provide insight and analysis of the data and provide recommendation on the course of action to be taken.

We are looking for someone with a creative outlook for pricing and data insights; capable of defining and owning processes. Possessing a strong level of commercial acumen, the successful candidate will be proactive and driven by driving profitable business acquisition and solving customer performance problems.

This new role within the department gives the successful candidate the opportunity to shape the direction of the company’s pricing policy while having a key role in steering service performance.


Commercial analysis duties include:

  • Alongside the Performance team, build a process for running reports on supplier and customer performance
  • Analyse, on a weekly and as required basis, the customer and supplier performance data and own the delivery of this process
  • Work with sales, sales support and supplier relations teams to create action plans for performance improvement
  • Engage operations to deliver internal improvements in processes
  • Identify suppliers and areas of the country in need of performance improvement and make recommendations through data driven insights
  • Monitor and report key market trends

Pricing duties include:

  • Undertake complete review of the company’s pricing policy
  • Define and implement company pricing policy and margin calculation
  • Work with finance to develop a mechanism for net margin calculations to understand the true cost of operating a contract
  • Analyse, on a weekly basis, customer margin detail and make quick recommendations on improvements
  • Run lead in miles reports and identify areas of reduction
  • Analyse fixed route data to identify areas of margin improvement
  • Coordinate activities with the sales, sales support and supplier relations team
  • Work with operations to ensure correct allocation of bookings
  • Work with bid manager to deliver effective pricing to win new business
  • Undertake research to understand market pricing of the competition to ensure competitive nature of the business
  • Utilise the data of customer profiles and gross and net margins to identify attractive markets and work with the bid manager and sales team to pinpoint targets


  • Candidate should hold a degree, ideally in an analytical discipline
  • Previous experience in reviewing and building new pricing policies
  • Experience working in an aggregator/reseller environment is beneficial
  • Excellent analytical skills and able to identify and articulate the best course of action from the data
  • Organised, professional with the ability to build and manage processes
  • Influential, able to work at all levels within a business
  • Previous experience with PowerBI and Salesforce would beneficial
  • A proactive, get stuff done attitude
  • Ability to manage a busy work load with multiple processes and prioritise effectively
  • Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
